Cork
A sustainable choice
Cork is a very interesting material, both from a sustainability perspective but also because of its good properties.A single cork tree can bind up to 800,000 kg of CO2 during its approximately 200-year lifetime. This makes the material a very environmentally friendly option for product manufacturing.Qualities and characteristics
CORK
- Excellent in cold, with maintained properties.
- Contains both lignin and suberin (cork substance, biopolymer), good natural binders and strongly hydrophobic polymer type.
- Possible to recycle, via "density bath" also for several composite materials.
- Elastic and compressible, with good setting properties.
- Naturally flame retardant. (UL 94 V0)
- High temperature resistance (around 250⁰ C).
- Impermeable to liquids and gases.
- Good vibration, shock and sound insulating properties.
- Very good thermal properties, Thermally insulating.
- Low weight, low density. (200—350 kg/m3) compared to: Aluminum (2700 kg/m3)
